 2018 Preview 


       Talladega County Central completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region four, the Fighting Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Talladega County Central reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Maplesville by a score of 36-0.

       The Fighting Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2008.

       Since 2010, Talladega County Central has gone a combined 37-46. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Talladega County Central has managed to compile a record of 146-120. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 1A and 140th in the AHSAA.




       The Fighting Tigers are led by head coach Chris Mahand who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 56-26 over the past seven seasons at Talladega County Central. Under his direction the Fighting Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Mahand.

       Coach Mahand's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 63-78 (44.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Mahand's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won two region championships.

       The Talladega County Central Fighting Tigers will play in Class 1A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Fighting Tigers remain in 1A but move from region four over to region five.

       The Fighting Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Fighting Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Childersburg on Friday, August 31 at Alumni Field. Last year the Childersburg Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 4A region three. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Andalusia by a score of 42-14.

       Talladega County Central and Childersburg have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Fighting Tigers have a 1-3-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2009 with Childersburg winning by a score of 34-21.
